With the aim of promoting scientific exchange between the Amazon and Portugal, the core of Environment at the Federal University of Pará (a/UFPA), through the graduate program in natural resource management and Local development in the Amazon region (PPGEDAM), during the period from 19 to 21 September the 1st Workshop Amazon-Portuguese: environment and Territorial Development. The debate, which is part of the celebrations for the 25 years of the a, at the core, located on Campus, is open to students of PPG's interested in.

The Workshop aims to bring together teachers, researchers and students of the PPGEDAM with researchers at the Institute of Social Science (ICS) of the University of Lisbon, to discuss sustainable development with special emphasis on the themes of land-use planning, cities, counties and climate change. The event will take place under the aegis of interdisciplinary, with reference to the ongoing research undertaken by teachers of a/UFPA and the University of Lisbon.

Guest speakers -the Workshop will have the presence of two professors from the University of Lisbon in Portugal: the researchers Dr. John Ferguson and Dr. Luísa Schmidt.

John Ferguson is licensed in geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon (UL). He finished his doctorate from the same institution in human geography. He is currently researcher Coordinator of the Institute of social sciences (ICS-UL) and coordinator of the Research Group "environment, Territory and society and of the Board of the Observatories of the ICS-UL. In addition to other duties, the researcher has published, alone or in collaboration, dozens of articles in national and international journals and several books on topics related to geography, regional planning and local and regional development policies. Is representative of the Council of Rectors of the Portuguese universities in CNADS (National Council for the environment and sustainable development), besides being Dean of the University of Lisbon society and local communities.

Luísa Schmidt's main researcher of the Institute of Sociology Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She is currently the two main research areas: Sociology of communication and sociology of the environment, in which he received his doctorate. In the ICS-UL, coordinates the research line "sustainability: environment, Risk and space" and is part of the Scientific Committee of the Doctoral Programme in "climate change and Sustainable development policies". The researcher and member of the team of investigators that they created and set up in 1996 the NOTES (Centre for environment and society), where he developed several research projects that bring together social sciences and environment. In addition to other activities, coordinates the working group within the framework of the National Commission of UNESCO for the Decade of education for sustainable development (2005-2014).

Exchange -the scientific exchange proposed by the event aims at the exchange of knowledge on environment and territorial development. In addition, it seeks the identification of thematic intersections for the achievement of joint projects for benchmarking between the realities of brazilian Amazonia and of Portugal.

GESTAM-Lab -22, still I GESTAM-Lab Workshop, with the theme "Territorial Dynamics and municipalities". The meeting, also in an initiative, will be at the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico do Pará. Teachers and students of the PPGEDAM/a, PPGEO and other guests are the target audience for this event.
